BACKGROUND _ WHY The prevalence of HIV Aids in Cameroon as compared to the rest of sub-saharan Africa is a cause for concern. The pandemic and those who suffer their demise as a result is rising. The need to care with dignity for those who have become causalties of this condition is growing. Alongside the infected, the ‘affected’ also need support. Because of the stigma attached to this desease, children become victimised and suffer twice – the loss of their parents, and rejection by society. Sponsor a Cameroonian Child therefore came out of various actions taken by elements of the Cameroonian Diaspora in the UK to bring hope and positive change to the lives of these disadvantaged children in Cameroon. Cameroon Forum is galvanising these efforts into this unique program. At a global level, this program will contribute to the nations effort to eradicate poverty as defined by the UN Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) to be achieved by 2015. Funds raised will assist to break the cycle of poverty. It will meet not just the financial needs of the child, but also their mental and educational development contributing towards a healthy lifestyle and an emotionaly balanced life. WHO WILL BENEFIT and WHERE Those children below the age of 18 who have become orphaned through the loss of their parent or principal carer to HIV / AIDS.
